How to Make a Factory Lithium Club Car Tempo Faster
Why is my lithium Club Car Tempo so slow?
Club Car limits the Tempo's top speed in the controller's settings. In most cases the cart is capable of more than its factory setting allows, which is why a Tempo feels like it hits a wall at full throttle.
Raising that limit has usually meant a trip to a Club Car dealer with the right programming tool, and paying again every time you want it changed.
Why the factory lithium Tempo needs its own programmer
Our current Club Car Tempo programmer works on lead-acid Tempos and on carts converted to aftermarket lithium. It does not work on Tempos that left the factory with Club Car's own lithium battery.
If you've searched for a speed programmer for a factory lithium Tempo, you already know the options are thin. This new Kraken is being built specifically for those carts.
LG and Vanguard: Club Car's two factory lithium batteries
Club Car has fitted the Tempo with two different factory lithium batteries over the years: LG and Vanguard. Which one is in your cart depends on when it was built.
The Kraken Tempo factory lithium programmer is being built for both. Whether your Tempo has the LG lithium battery or the Vanguard lithium battery, this is the speed programmer for it.
What the Kraken Tempo Lithium programmer changes

Unlike our other programmers, which you plug in to make a change and then remove, this Kraken stays connected to your cart. Every setting can be changed again whenever you like. Set it one way for the golf course and another for the neighborhood.
What affects your real-world top speed
29 MPH is the programmer's maximum speed setting. Fit larger wheels and tires and the same setting carries the cart to as much as 30 MPH on the road.
Beyond wheel size, your top speed also depends on tire pressure, passenger and cargo weight, and terrain. A fully charged battery helps. Hills and heavy loads work against you.

Not sure which you have? If your Tempo came from Club Car with a lithium-ion battery already installed (an LG or Vanguard pack), it's factory lithium, and this is the programmer you're waiting for. If it came with lead-acid batteries, even if you've since swapped in a lithium pack, you need the current Tempo programmer.

No. The current Club Car Tempo programmer only works with lead-acid Tempos and carts converted to aftermarket lithium. Factory lithium Tempos need the new programmer described on this page.
If your Tempo came from Club Car with a lithium-ion battery already installed, it's factory lithium. Club Car used two factory lithium batteries, LG and Vanguard, depending on the year. At launch it supports the Club Car Tempo with factory lithium only. We make a separate programmer for the Club Car Precedent (2009-2018), and the current Tempo programmer covers lead-acid and aftermarket lithium Tempos.
Laws for golf carts and low-speed vehicles vary by state and city. The Kraken lets you choose any speed up to the maximum, and you can turn it back down just as easily. It's your responsibility to follow your local laws.
