Device Not Working?

Most issues can be resolved by following the troubleshooting steps below. Work through each step in order for the best results.

1

Confirm Vehicle Compatibility

Verify you have the correct programmer for your cart

The KRAKEN Programmer is a vehicle-specific device. Each programmer is designed to work with specific golf cart models only.

Critical: Using a KRAKEN Programmer on an incompatible vehicle will result in the device not functioning. Always verify your cart model matches your programmer version.

How to Verify Compatibility

Check your order confirmation or product label to confirm your KRAKEN Programmer model, then verify it matches your golf cart's make, model, and year.

Supported Models by Programmer Type:

  • E-Z-GO RXV 2013-2024: Works only with E-Z-GO RXV carts from model years 2013-2024
  • E-Z-GO RXV 2025+: Works only with E-Z-GO RXV carts from model year 2025 and newer
  • E-Z-GO TXT Elite: Works only with E-Z-GO TXT Elite lithium models
  • Club Car Tempo: Works only with Club Car Tempo models (Non-Factory Lithium)

If you're unsure about your cart's model or year, check the manufacturer's label typically located on the frame or under the seat.

2

Ensure Vehicle is Powered On

The controller must have power for the device to function

The KRAKEN Programmer draws power from your golf cart's controller. You MUST have power to the controller in order for this device to turn on and tune.

Power Verification Checklist:

  • Turn the key to the "ON" position
  • Verify the cart's dash lights or display are active
  • Check that the cart is not in "tow" or "maintenance" mode
  • Ensure the main battery disconnect switch (if equipped) is in the ON position
  • Confirm batteries are charged and connected properly

Low Battery Warning: If your batteries are severely discharged, the controller may not have sufficient power to operate the KRAKEN Programmer. Charge your batteries fully before troubleshooting.

The KRAKEN will not power on or communicate with the cart if the controller is not receiving power, even if the device is properly connected.

3

Check Cable Connection

Ensure the cable is fully seated in the device

A loose cable connection is one of the most common causes of device malfunction. The cable must be fully inserted into the top of the KRAKEN device.

Proper Connection Indicators

The latch of the connector should look flat against the device when properly seated. If the latch is raised or appears loose, the connection is not secure.

Cable Connection Steps:

  • Disconnect the cable from the KRAKEN device
  • Inspect the connector for any damage or debris
  • Align the connector with the port on top of the device
  • Push firmly until you feel it click into place
  • Verify the latch is flush and secure
  • Gently tug the cable to ensure it's locked in

If the cable won't seat properly or the latch won't close, there may be an obstruction in the port or damage to the connector. Do not force it.

4

Inspect Diagnostic Port

Check for damage or corrosion on the vehicle port

The diagnostic port on your golf cart must be clean and undamaged for proper communication with the KRAKEN Programmer.

Corrosion Alert: If any corrosion is visible on the diagnostic port pins, you are likely not getting a solid connection. This will prevent the device from functioning properly.

Diagnostic Port Inspection:

  • Locate the diagnostic port on your golf cart (usually under the dash or near the controller)
  • Visually inspect all pins for corrosion (green, white, or brown discoloration)
  • Check for bent or broken pins
  • Look for debris, dirt, or moisture inside the port
  • Ensure the port housing is not cracked or damaged

Cleaning Corroded Ports

If minor corrosion is present, it may be cleaned with electrical contact cleaner and a small brush. For severe corrosion or damaged pins, the port may need professional repair or replacement.

A damaged or corroded diagnostic port can cause intermittent connections, communication errors, or complete failure to connect. This is a vehicle issue, not a KRAKEN device issue.

5

Test with OEM Programmer

Verify the vehicle's controller is functioning normally

If all of the above are deemed clear, connect an OEM Curtis 1313 handheld programmer to the vehicle and ensure that it functions normally.

Why This Step Matters

Testing with an OEM programmer helps determine if the issue is with your KRAKEN device or with the vehicle's controller/diagnostic system. If the OEM programmer also fails to connect or function, the problem is with the vehicle, not the KRAKEN.

OEM Programmer Test:

  • Borrow or rent an OEM Curtis 1313 handheld programmer
  • Connect it to your cart's diagnostic port
  • Verify it powers on and communicates with the controller
  • Test basic functions to confirm normal operation

Test Results: If the OEM programmer works normally but the KRAKEN does not, your KRAKEN may be defective. If the OEM programmer also fails, the issue is with your vehicle's controller or wiring and will require professional repair.
